Introducing Joule Juice™

The first PCM designed for combined heating and cooling

Using principles learned as Geothermal HVAC engineers, our team has settled on an ambient temperature of 65°-75°F (~18°-24°C) that can assist in both heating and cooling applications – as the temperature range defined is considered ambient in both summer and winter months. One of the greatest challenges with ambient temperature chemistry was to find a Phase Change Material (PCM) that performed well within this temperature range, but partnering with the Department of Energy’s (DOE ) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) team , we were able to identify a solution that met these requirements.

A commercially viable PCM

Having worked with and communicated with PCM manufacturers, experts, and chemists globally, we came to the conclusion that we would have to either make or find the right PCM. We needed a low cost, energy-dense, easily manufactured, environmentally responsible, low supercooling/subcooling PCM at 65°-75°F at an ambient temperature.

Needs of customers

The critical need of customers, is to install a reliable and efficient heating and cooling system that reduces energy usage compared to conventional HVAC systems in order to minimize the cost of operation, and potentially the size of a solar PV system required to achieve onsite net zero energy. Our target customers currently meet their HVAC needs by either installing low-cost conventional HVAC systems that are not very energy efficient or installing high efficiency equipment – both of which typically use natural gas as a fuel source - which has a negative impact on the environment.

Target customers

Joule Juice is a Phase Change Material (PCM) designed to serve the commercial building industry primarily due to the economies of scale that can be found in the commercial building industry, along with the fact that our technology is designed around reducing peak building loads, which are typically greater in commercial buildings. Target customers include:

HVAC EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS

FACILITY DIRECTORS

ENGINNERS

MECHANICAL CONTRACTORS
